Carnival Sunshine Class Ships

Fully rebuilt and reimagined. Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Splendor are extensively refurbished ships delivering a modern Carnival experience with unique venues not found elsewhere in the fleet.

The Sunshine Class Ships

  • Carnival Sunshine — Homeport: Charleston, SC and various. Originally launched 1996 as Carnival Destiny, rebuilt 2013.
  • Carnival Splendor — Homeport: Long Beach, California. Originally launched 2008 as Costa Splendor, reflagged to Carnival 2019.

About the Sunshine Class

Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Splendor are extensively rebuilt ships that were essentially gutted and reimagined, making them feel like newer vessels despite their older hulls. Carnival Sunshine homeporting in Charleston, South Carolina is one of the most convenient drive-to-port options for travelers in the Carolinas and Virginia. The rebuilds added multiple new dining venues, the WaterWorks aqua park, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, the Havana Bar and pool area, and a significantly updated cabin inventory. Carnival Splendor from Long Beach serves the West Coast market with Mexican Riviera and Alaska itineraries. These ships offer a modern Carnival experience at prices that often undercut the newer classes.

Best For

Southeast drive-to-port travelers from Charleston, budget-conscious cruisers who want a modernized Carnival experience, and West Coast travelers from Long Beach seeking Mexican Riviera and Alaska itineraries on Carnival Splendor.
